Muxi(Fa Chang)is a famous zen painter in the Southern Song Dynasty. His painting style collects the strengths of hundreds of schools, inheriting the House of Stone and Liang Kai,integrating literati elegance, forming a school of its own, with a unique style, simple and elegant, and making people memorable, playing an important role in the development of Zen painting."Guanyin Ape Crane" is the most representative of Makeshi’s Japanese paintings. It is also known as "Three Axes of Daotoku Temple" because it exists in Daotoku Temple in Japan. This work is respected as a national treasure in Japan. As the basis for Japanese scholars to study Maki,it also has high appreciation value due to its zen and elegant aesthetic feeling and pure ink painting techniques, and is called "the first Japanese ink painting".In1983,with the publication of the Zen Paintings of China’s Song and Yuan Dynasties Collected in Japan by the famous scholar Gao Han,“Guanyin Ape Crane” was also included in the article, which introduced Muxi into Chinese people’s vision again. With the powerful ink and remote Zen in the works,a fanatic study on this mysterious painting monk was triggered, which was called "Muxi Fever".Chinese scholar Xu Jianrong also spoke highly of this work as "a masterpiece of deep ink in Zen painting".This paper makes an in-depth analysis on the painting of “Guanyin Ape Crane”,and discusses the painting skills of Muxi.Starting from its creation origin, technique construction, ideological connotation and influence and inspiration to the later generations,it makes an in-depth study of the painting skills of Muxi and puts them into use.The first chapter analyzes the creation origin of "Guanyin Ape Crane Picture",and points out that Muxi brushwork is influenced by "academy painting","literati painting" and "Zen painting".At the same time, the existing disputes and comments on this work are discussed, which lays a foundation for in-depth analysis of Muxi painting techniques. The second chapter deeply analyzes the skills and painting environment of "Guanyin Ape Crane Picture" from three aspects of ink, composition and painting style, and summarizes the embodiment of the painting style of Muxi Chanyi. The third chapter discusses the influence of Muxi’s painting “Guanyin Ape Crane”on the later generations, and provides theoretical basis for the application of Muxi’s painting techniques in the creation by analyzing the inheritance and changes of Muxi techniques in Japanese painting,Chinese painting and contemporary ink painting. The fourth chapter combines the above research results with the author’s creation to explore the practical application of Muxi painting techniques in contemporary creation.Based on the ideas of "definite" and "enlightenment" in Zen Buddhism, the work "Amazing Dream" combines Muxi’s painting techniques and the color setting method of light colors to create a visual effect of "emptiness".It guides practice with theory and summarizes theory from practice.
