As an important display window of Baroque visual culture and an important component of Baroque art style,Baroque painting has a high degree of complexity. The complexity of Baroque art depends on the change of aesthetic taste brought by the common pursuit of novelty and gorgeousness by the creator and the audience, which is then reflected in the advances in spatial technological means and overwhelming visual effect. The creators use the ever-changing forms of Baroque painting to show the infinite extension of the malleability of vision. The research was then pushed too far into geometric and philosophical thinking, and for Baroque painting, this complexity led to a new experience of visual perception, which was directly embodied in the sense of irregularity brought about by deformation, organic interaction in the process of spatial expansion, and a break with the overly complex folding of traditional geometric theories. The non-linear folding and dynamic iteration of the Baroque art language are in sharp contrast to the simplicity of traditional Euclidean geometry.Baroque painting resonates with fractal theory under complexity system in basic principles, artistry, spirituality, and so on,thus providing a theoretical premise for analyzing the complexity of picture forms.Under the methodological framework of this theory, fractal dimension is used to compare and quantitatively analyze the complexity of different creation periods, images with different themes, and representative works of different artists, then to define the typical Baroque style from the perspective of dimensions.Through analyzing the works of the Renaissance artist Raphael, the Baroque period artist Velazquez, the representative figure of Baroque style Rubens,as well as Portraits of Madonna over the centuries and other themes creation in Baroque period by dimension changes. The results show that size D greater than 1.6 could be selected as one of the complex attributes of typical Baroque paintings on the two-dimensional plane when the relationship between the subject image and the background of the painting could be clearly distinguished. Thus realized the objective interpretation of Baroque painting’s complex form characteristics. In addition to visual form factors, the complexity of Baroque painting is also the embodiment of its unique cultural expression.Baroque art vividly reproduces complex landscapes influenced by the Catholic faith, the authoritarian state, the new science, and the early modern world, which combine into a precarious mixture that gives the Baroque age a fascinating pluralistic complexity. On the one hand, the dynamic migration of the age of discovery and the new cosmology has triggered dynamic changes in cultural structures and multicentric perspectives. On the other hand, the Baroque era formed a complex cognitive set under the conflict between religious crisis and political fanaticism, between ideas and the will to power. In addition,as the cultural transfer of traditional European Baroque to the American continent brought by colonial expansion, the New World Baroque realized visual presentation in the same form of expression in different cultural systems, and accommodated multiple cultural meanings in the shared expression context in the way of conflict and fusion.Eventually,Baroque art expanded and developed around the world in the form of a cultural fractal and gradually formed the "neo-Baroque" aesthetic paradigm, creating an "anti-conquest" discourse that emphasized self-conscious awakening. This allows us to see not only the creativity of the Baroque style but also its cross-historical,cross-spatial,and cross-cultural appeal. This is a visual feast of art,but also a mixed, highly subversive cultural centrifugal movement."Complexity" is the fanciest invitation to this mobile feast. The deconstruction of "complexity" has undergone a series of analytical processes, from the perception of visual features to the objective description of picture complexity through the concept and method of fractal and its dimensions in experience and practice,to the deep structural interpretation of fractal in Baroque culture, which interprets the complexity of Baroque culture from multiple perspectives and echoes the Baroque era.
