On The Aesthetics Of Fractal

The subject of fractal is a branch of non-linear science which had its beginnings in the twentieth century, and is used to describe these geometric shapes in non-linear system and nature which are non-smooth and irregular. Fractal theory which derived from the expanding of fractal geometry to application fields have been influencing greatly natural science and even fields of philosophy, history, art and culture. It deals with nature and more its essence is a new world outlook and methodology, which has provided a new philosophical basis to human being for further understanding the nature of world. New shaping languages and expressing approaches provided by fractal theory make us to generate complex and magnificent fractal figures by means of computers. These fractal figures which have tremendous aesthetic preferences open up a new field of visual representation and not only imply traditional aesthetic minds of nature but also bring out whole new aesthetic judging principles and tastes.Jackson.Pollock, an important pioneer of modern abstract expressionism, had made his works possess unforgettable natural essence through painting forms approximating to arts of performance. However previous art critics had made their comments on Pollock's works from his painting approaches and pursuits of spirit merely. In this paper, we introduce fractal theory to analyze and deconstruct abstract expressionism works and to reveal aesthetic substance as well as aesthetic judging resonance of audience. And more we bring forward an exposition of fractal theory on inherent reflection of arts and beauty.After surveyed the reflection of arts and beauty based on fractal theory, we furthermore research fractal deeply as a nascent art form. General fractal arts is that natural and artificial artistic phenomenon generated or explained by fractal minds. And then restricted fractal arts is that art works generated by softwares based on scientific principles of fractal geometry, which highlight remarkable unique artistic charisma in virtue of their qualities of art forms is that disorder contains order and complex contains simpleness. At present, fractal arts has been introduced to the humanities with bright prospects. But as a fresh arts, the fractal artistic charisma remain to be exploited and extended deep in whatever aspects of effect on perspective of aesthetics or propagation.This paper firstly teases out and analyzes fractal aesthetic properties and meanings in detail represented by fractal figures produced by computer using research results exiting for reference. Secondly, abstract expressionism is discussed and art works relation to it are deconstructed in point of fractal theory view, and sense of beauty in abstract expressionism works are elucidated, and then we argues that fractal aesthetics has unique advantages supported by modern fractal theory to reflect substantially arts and beauty. Finally, fractal arts, a nascent arts, is defined and classified, and aesthetic qualities of fractal and traditional arts are distinguished to illuminate particular charm of fractal arts so as to explore due significance and value of fractal arts.
