Character image is an important carrier for humanities documentaries to expose social problems and convey humanistic spirit.For humanities documentaries,the ultimate purpose of character building is to provoke audiences to think about social reality and show deep humanistic values,so as to gain audiences’ attention and recognition.This coincides with the "Reader-centered theory" emphasized by the theory of receptive aesthetics.With the development of new media,audiences have begun to pay attention to the expression of their own views and aesthetic satisfaction,which has put forward higher requirements for the creation of humanities documentaries.Therefore,when constructing character images,humanities documentaries need to fully consider the audience as an important factor,start from the audience’s perspective,understand the audience’s needs to the greatest extent,fully mobilize the audience’s subjective initiative,strengthen the interaction between the audience and the characters,so as to clarify the choice of character images,enrich the meaning of character images,strengthen the identity of character images,and provide new ideas for the construction of character images in humanities documentaries.Based on humanities documentaries,this paper takes character image as the research object.Under the guidance of receptive aesthetics theory,it analyzes and researches some hot and distinctive humanities documentaries in recent years,summarizes the strategies and methods for constructing character image in humanities documentaries under the threshold of receptive aesthetics,and applies the relevant conclusions to the graduation work "Post 90 s elderly care worker" for practice.In terms of structure,the whole paper is divided into four main parts.The first part is to sort out the relevant concepts of receptive aesthetics and humanities documentary,and to extract the influence and significance of receptive aesthetics on the construction of character image in humanities documentary according to the inner connection between them;The second part is to explore the strategy of selecting character image in humanities documentaries based on the theory of "potential readers".By analyzing the aesthetic needs of potential audiences,we determine the selection basis,summarize the aesthetic characteristics of characters in current humanities documentaries according to the audiences’ needs,clarify the selection target,and apply the strategy to the graduation work.The third part is the focus of this paper.Inspired by the theories of "expectation horizon" and "calling structure",it explores the construction methods of character images in humanities documentaries from the aspects of narrative and audio-visual.On the one hand,a variety of narrative perspectives,narrative skills and narrative structures are combined to discuss the narrative methods of character image construction in humanities documentaries from the perspective of reception aesthetics.On the other hand,the audio-visual methods of character image construction from the perspective of reception aesthetics are summarized by using voice language,lens language,expression content and expression form to show the call of character image to the audience.And analyze the concrete application of both in the practice of graduation work.The fourth part is thinking about the construction of character image in humanities documentaries from the perspective of reception aesthetics,analyzing some problems existing in the construction of character image in humanities documentaries,and proposing countermeasures.
