The 1980s was a special turning year that has received much attention in academic circles, especially in the present day, where a return to the 1980s has become a consensus. The revival of the May 4th Enlightenment tradition became a cultural vein that continued to develop in the 1980s,with the intellectual community at the centre of the overall social structure, taking on the important task of promoting social change, intending to establish itself as the voice of the nation, the state and culture, and exploring how to mobilise society’s material and cultural resources, and in order to understand intellectual discourse politically and culturally,it must be placed in a social and literary context. The literary creation of the 1980s was always accompanied by the reconstruction and development of youth subjectivity;in scarred and reflective writing, youth emerged as characters to be doubted and even judged;in reform narratives, the image of youth was more complex, both doubted and needed for modernisation;in root-seeking literature, the group practice of youth writing about themselves was expanded;in the subsequent Chinese modernist novels,In the subsequent Chinese modernist novels, young people showed a clear sense of individuality and a rebellious stance, but they were undoubtedly confused and had a quest, but they did not know what it was, which in a way determined their role as intermediaries in history. This paper thus attempts to understand the historical and literary situation of the 1980s in depth, focusing on the literature of the 1980s and using the birth of youth subjectivity as an entry point. The construction of the youth subject can be seen as the inner vision of the literary imagination of the 1980s.Starting from this inner vision, this paper discusses the 1980s anew, highlighting how the literature of the 1980s expressed its views on the relationship between literature and the times through the production and development of youth subjectivity, and how the main tide of the times shaped the new subjects, revealing the complexity and specificity of the literature of the 1980s.The paper develops its argument in five parts as follows:The introductory section discusses the significance of this paper, its object, methodology and the current state of research at home and abroad.1980s literature is diverse and complex, and the historical context has special significance, while youth,as the subject of imagination, possesses the value of exploration in how it develops and evolves in the entire historical context of Chinese literature.Through the examination of youth subjectivity in the 1980s,it is possible to delve into the literary and cultural imagination of the 1980s.Given the characteristics of the research subject, this paper will adopt, among other things,a documentary collection and collation method in order to sketch out the literary landscape of the time. The first chapter of the thesis attempts to explore the socio-cultural background of the generation of youth subjectivity by examining two aspects:the official mainstream consciousness and the consciousness of writers of folk literary genres, and by discussing typical examples around literary trend debates and writers’ genres, pointing out that youth subjectivity was adjusted and developed by the influence of official indoctrination and writers’ consciousness, and restoring the historical scene of the construction of youth subjectivity in the 1980s.The second chapter delves into the specific connotations of youth subjectivity, using the discussion sections of literary journals to get closer to the core of the times, and presenting the spiritual landscape of the youth community in the 1980s in a small way. This chapter takes the column "What is the meaning of life?" in China Youth as a starting point, and analyses the way young readers responded to Pan Xiao’s letters, expressing their views on the times, and explores the development of youth subjectivity in the context of the literary creations of Liu Sola,Hai Zi and Lu Yao,as well as the literary titles published in China Youth, presenting the different perceptions and handling of the crisis of the times by young people.different ways of perceiving and dealing with the crisis of the times, pointing out the interactive relationship between society and literature. The third chapter presents a case study of young people’s subjective identity. As subjects of the literary imagination, young people’s reading of literature is precisely a certain historical response,an attempt to generate a personal imaginative space from the larger history.Using Today and Life,The Ordinary World as a starting point,it examines the daily lives of young people under the influence of literary penetration, and the changes in their reading concepts and behaviours arising from the complex mechanism of literary transmission. In the concluding remarks, the history of youth subjectivity generation in the 1980s is broadly reviewed, and the literary history of this particular stage of the 1980s is reviewed and cleaned up in order to expand the horizons of literary studies. This paper highlights the study of the construction of the youth subject, with the intention of offering some new possibilities for returning to the literature of the 1980s and reassessing the history of literary reading,so that the history of the literature of the 1980s can be presented in a more ’vivid’ and The study aims to provide some new possibilities for returning to the literature of the 1980s and reassessing the history of literary reading,so as to make the literary history of the 1980s more "alive" and"real".
