Vocabulary teaching is crucial in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign/second language(i.e.,international Chinese education).Many scholars have conducted extensive research on "vocabulary teaching".By searching with the keyword "vocabulary teaching" in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),there are 4,550 relevant articles,while only 21 of them are related to "game-based vocabulary teaching".Moreover,the 21 articles discuss third-party platforms or applications(such as Kahoot,Quizlet,Edmodo,Classroom Screen,Peardeck,and Wordwall)rather than self-designed courseware.This indicates that the original design and practical research on courseware for vocabulary teaching are still weak.This article focuses on the analysis of the utility of the self-created toolbox software by the author,highlighting its value.The application of educational technology has become an important trend in modern education,which can assist Chinese vocabulary teaching in the classroom.Based on the advantages in information technology teaching,the author led the development of a series of vocabulary games,which were then integrated into a "Teacher’s Toolbox Software" and made available to frontline Chinese language teachers worldwide,receiving a large amount of feedback data.The software follows the principles of being educational and scientific,and can solve some learning problems in actual teaching,such as(1)strengthening students’basic word recognition skills and helping them master knowledge points faster,(2)outputting specific content of interesting Chinese exercises,game flashcards,etc.according to the personalized needs of different teachers to assist teaching,and(3)the games and small exercises have certain difficulty and depth,which can solve some problems that students encounter while learning.This paper reports on a study conducted with 200 students in a Chinese program at a public school in New York State and 219 first-line Chinese language teachers and 5 parents from around the world.The study used questionnaires to gather data from the perspectives of students,teachers,and parents on the effectiveness of using educational technology to support Chinese vocabulary instruction in the classroom.The results showed that using educational technology can stimulate students’ interest in learning and significantly improve their acquisition of vocabulary.The article suggests that the related application models mentioned in the study have high promotional value and can help improve the vocabulary teaching level of first-line Chinese language teachers in international Chinese education. |
