In recent years, the large-scale development of the western region and the rural revitalization strategy have promoted the rapid economic development of Xiangxi,so that people can access the rich tourism resources of Xiangxi.Rural tourism resources in western Hunan can be divided into natural tourism resources and humanistic tourism resources, namely: beautiful natural landscapes and primitive humanistic landscapes. Therefore,it is of great significance to study the folk culture of Xiangxi and translate it overseas,so as to promote the healthy development of tourism in Xiangxi. This article is a Chinese-English translation practice report. The source language text is Xiangxi on The Toes published by China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Publishing House in August 2012.This text belongs to the tourism type text, which introduces the scenic spots, food and local customs and culture of Xiangxi to domestic and foreign tourists. The report first introduces the background, significance and text analysis of the translation task, and then describes the translation process, including parallel text, translation tools, translation theory, translation difficulties, and proofreading. In the translation process, the translator encounters some difficulties in translation, and divides these difficulties into three aspects: the translation of Xiangxi material folklore,Xiangxi spiritual folklore and Xiangxi institutional folklore. An in-depth study is conducted with Hans Vermeer’s Skopos Theory as the theoretical basis,so that the English version of these difficult points can be solved accordingly. This report points out that for the translation of Xiangxi material folklore, the translator should adopt literal translation plus explanation, reconstruction and substitution to complete the purpose of spreading the local Xiangxi culture overseas;for the translation of Xiangxi spiritual folklore, the translator can use literal translation, conversion and deletion, thus achieving the purpose of conveying the implicit cultural connotation;for the translation of Xiangxi institutional folklore, the translator can use translation methods such as free translation, addition and annotation,so that the sentence structure is coherent and smooth.
