A Comparative Study Of Culturally Loaded Words In The French And English Versions Of Border Tow

The material of this translation report is selected from the seventh chapter of the book “Retreat or Resolution? Tackling the crisis of mass higher education” written by Peter Scott in 2021.This chapter analyzes in detail the development of mass higher education in Britain from the aspects of society,culture and economy,and the challenges that British mass higher education are facing.A series of case analysis methods are used in this report.In the process of translation,the translator carried out case analyses on the difficulties of translation,and analyzed these difficulties from the aspects of word,sentence and context.The case analyses of word include educational terms,the compound adjectives and nominal structures.On the translation of sentence,the translator analyzed the translation of appositive in this report.In the aspect of context,the methods of “Conversion of cohesive approach” and “Adjustment of cohesion” are used to adjust the cohesive relations of the target text by using“Repetition”,“Substitution” and “Omission”.By carrying out comparative study of cases,proper methods are identified on word,sentence and context translation,which include addition,conversion,turning phrases into clauses,combining,transforming cohesive devices and adjusting cohesive relations.It is hoped that through translation of this text,the related findings of research in higher education from abroad would be introduced,so as to provide some materials for the translations of this kind of text in the future.
