Under the strategy of rural revitalization in the new era,the development of rural tourism is of great significance for realizing the coordinated development of urban and rural areas, accelerating the integration of urban and rural resources, and promoting the traditional culture.China’s Rural Tourism in the New Era written by Li Jun deeply studies the development model of rural tourism in Sichuan Province from the perspective of tourism+,which plays an important role in advancing rural tourism research. This translation practice is guided by the skopos theory of Hans Vermeer, and the translation material is selected from China’s Rural Tourism in the New Era,which is an informative text.Skopos theory includes three rules: the skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule.Under the skopos theory, the translator’s translation purpose is to reproduce the source text faithfully and give full play to the informative function of the source text.Besides, this translation project is commissioned by Li Jun and the target text is expected to have a communication with foreign experts. So the translator needs to understand the writer’s writing intention accurately and takes target readers’ demand into account apart from achieving personal translation purposes. The source text is smooth and fluent with loose and flexible discourses, featuring with lots of compound sentences without subjects and explicit conjunctions. Therefore, according to the coherence rule, the translator achieves intratextual coherence in terms of lexical collocation, syntactic connection and textual cohesion to make the target text readable and acceptable.Based on contemporary social practices, the source text contains terms, proper nouns and official expressions.Under the fidelity rule, the translator makes the target text faithful to the source text in terms of conceptual meaning, connotative meaning and social meaning to achieve the intertextual coherence. In this translation project, the translator gives full consideration to the purposes and needs of each part, tries hard to achieve coherence in lexical, syntactic and textual levels, and conveys the meaning of the source text to achieve faithfulness. This project verifies the applicability of the skopos theory to the translation of informative texts, with an aim to provide a reference for the translation of similar texts in the future.
