The Book of Songs is the beginning of Chinese poetry.Its unique cultural charm has attracted widespread attention from experts and scholars at home and abroad.Different translations have narrowed the distance between foreign readers and China,showing our country’s rich traditional culture and recreating the spirit of the Chinese nation.The diverse types of images and rich cultural connotations in the book are the key points and difficulties in translation.Based on Newmark’s Semantic Translation Theory,this dissertation compares and analyzes the translation methods and effects of astronomical images in Shtukin and Abramoviko versions of The Book of Songs,in order to propose an optimal translation strategy for astronomical images in Confucian classics.This paper consists of four chapters.The introduction of the first chapter mainly introduces the research background and significance of the subject,sorts out the development status of the image translation of The Book of Songs at home and abroad,determines that the research object of this dissertation,which is the astronomical images in the dual-Russian version of The Book of Songs translated by Shtukin and Abramoviko,and clarifies the research content and research methods.The second chapter of the theoretical basis briefly describes the concept,development process,characteristics and application of Newmark’s Semantic Translation Theory;briefly describes the connotation of image,explains the feasibility of studying image based on Semantic Translation Theory,and summarizes the astronomical imagery of different topics in this book.The third chapter compares and analyzes the translation methods of specific astronomical imagery vocabulary in the dual-Russian version based on the perspective of semantic translation.The fourth chapter is based on the four criteria of restoring “image” and “meaning”,losing“image” and restoring “meaning”,restoring “image”and losing “meaning”,comparative analysis of The Book of Songs,spots the factors that affect the translation of the two images,and try to propose an optimal translation strategy.This paper explores the application of Semantic Translation Theory in the process of image translation in The Book of Songs,and contributes to the study of poetic image translation from the perspective of translation theory.It also selects the astronomical imagery as a case to expand the scope of image translation research in The Book of Songs,compares the translation of astronomical imagery of the Russian translation of The Book of Songs by Shtukin and Abramenko,promotes the in-depth development of poetry translation research,and contributes to the development of Chinese poetry to the world. |
