This translation is taken from the part one of The Hummingbird Handbook:Everything You Need to Know about These Fascinating Birds,which tells the story of the hummingbirds that were gradually uncovered as specimens poured into Europe in the early days of world exploration.This text is a bird science text and,in accordance with the type of text and the linguistic characteristics of the text,the translator chose to work on the case study in terms of translation transformation,translation of dashes and discourse.In accordance with Catford’s concept of translation transformation,the translator starts with the transformation of semantic compound words and the transformation of units.In translating the dashes in the text,the translator uses prosody and deletion.At the discourse level,the translator analyses logical relational manifestation and contextual meaning-relational translation as the main elements.It is hoped that the completion of this translation practice report will make more people aware of birds and increase their awareness of bird conservation. |
