A Report Of The C-E Translation Of Journal Papers In Traffic And Transportation Engineering Based On Variation Translation Theory

This is a practice report on Chinese-English translation.The source texts are two journal papers in transportation engineering,with a total of about 20,000 Chinese characters.They mainly study the promotion and application of modified asphalt to search for the substitute of petroleum asphalt in highway construction.It is a typical text of professional science and technology,and the target language readers are professional technical researchers in the field.This translation practice,guided by the variation translation theory attempts to explore the C-E translation rules of journal papers in transportation engineering in order to improve the information quality and reading efficiency.Six methods are adopted during the whole translation process:amplification for professional expressions;editing for run-on sentences;narration for slow-starting sentences;deletion and condensation for repetitive information;remodeling for implicit logic and non-verbal information.The translation practice shows that the application of variation translation theory in the translation of journal papers in Transportation Engineering contributes to efficient information transmission,optimizes translation quality and helps to meet publication requirements of foreign journals.
