ICT Translation Report Under Guidance Of Translation Variation Theory

As a new technology field formed by the integration of information technology and communication technology,Information and Communication Technologies(ICT)entails even closer exchanges and cooperation in this field,and accordingly the requirements for ICT translation are getting increasingly higher.This translation project is based on The 5G Economy,which introduces the knowledge in the field of information and communication and belongs to ICT text.The translation variation theory proposed by Professor Huang Zhonglian is applicable to the translation of the selected texts.Translation variation is presented relatively to full translation.The basis for the opposition between translation variation and full translation is the integrity of the retention of the original in translation.Therefore,translation variation is a non complete translation,a translation activity in which translators absorb the relevant contents of original works by means of “addition”,“deletion”,“editing”,“narration”,“condensation”,“combination” and “adaption” according to the special needs of specific readers under specific conditions.ICT translation requires the translation of works suitable for readers’ reading needs and practical characteristics,and the translation variation theory is a translation theory developed gradually under the background of meeting this translation requirements.This translation theory plays a key role in guiding ICT translation.The project consists of five chapters.Chapter 1 introduces the research background,research significance,research methods and the structure of the project.Chapter 2 is an overview of translation variation theory and its research at home and abroad.Chapter 3 mainly introduces the features of ICT text and the difficulties of ICT translation.Chapter 4 is a case analysis,which analyzes translation examples by using seven variation methods of translation variation theory.Chapter 5 is the conclusion,which summarizes the project.This translation practice project is based on Professor Huang Zhonglian’s translation variation theory and its seven variation means,analyzes the chosen examples,discusses preliminarily ICT translation under guidance of translation variation theory,explains the translation practicability of translation variation theory in ICT field,and provides constructive suggestions for ICT translation.
