A Study On The Development Of Buddhism In The Song,Jin And Yuan Dynasties In Yuncheng Region

The Song and Jin Yuan Dynasties was an important period for the development of Buddhism in Yuncheng area.At this stage,Buddhist thought was gradually accepted by local scholars and officials.Buddhist beliefs went deeply among the people at the bottom and had an important influence on the cultural customs of Yuncheng area.Under the influence of Buddhist beliefs,scholars,officials and the public also showed great enthusiasm for Buddhist activities such as building Buddhist temples,helping temples and buying places,which further promoted the development of Buddhism in Yuncheng area.In the three dynasties of the Song,Jin and Yuan dynasties,the rulers mostly adopted more supportive policies for Buddhism,hoping to strengthen local governance with the help of Buddhism’s enlightenment to the people.Under the influence of the ruler’s policy,Buddhism in Yuncheng area has developed rapidly,and there are a considerable number of Buddhist temples in the territory.Until now,there are still a number of large-scale temples,such as Xinjiang Baidi Temple,Tangyin Temple in Jiangxian County,and Qinglong Temple in Jishan.In addition,the superior geographical location and cultural environment attracted a large number of eminent monks to come to the Yuncheng area to spread Buddhism.They preached sutras and built temples in the temples,and promoted the spread of Buddhist beliefs among the people.Under the auspices of the eminent Buddhist monks,the temple attracted a large number of literati and military and political officials to interact with them.They either wrote inscriptions for the temple,or invited the eminent monks to preside over the temple.With the support of local scholars and officials,the Buddhist power continued to grow.This period of Yuncheng Buddhism also presents its own characteristics,the faith and secret faith is still widely spread in the folk,three fusion,especially Yuncheng area special geographical location,make it become Chang’an,Luoyang Buddhism,to promote the development of surrounding Buddhism plays a very important role.
