This paper aims at providing a summarization of both the theoretical and empirical knowledge of creating electroacoustic music for plucked instruments from Barren Night,a piece composed by the author.Beginning from an overall depiction of the relationships between the guitar and the electroacoustic music, this paper then makes a detailed discussion at such relationships exhibited in Night, with a reflection on both personal experience and universal principles for combining the guitar with the electroacoustic music.Barren Night is inspired by works of Qin Guan’s,a Chinese poet during the Song dynasty.Based on his experience of learning classical guitar performance at early ages, the author came up with the idea of creating this piece for the purpose of making further exploration on the combination of guitar and electroacoustic music.Compared to other plucked instruments,it is relatively scarce to find pieces of electroacoustic music involving the classical guitar.Under this circumstance, the author takes the views of a performer,a composer and a learner respectively in the composition of both the piece and this paper and carries out a study and analysis on domestic and foreign pieces of music combining guitar and other plucked instruments with electronic sounds, such as Nymph of Luo River, which aims to make a ground-breaking exploration on both the combination of guitar and electroacoustic music and the further integration of elements of Chinese tradition culture in music.
