Research On Animal Sacrifice In Tombs Of Shang And Zhou Dynasties In Northern Shaanxi

The northern part of Shaanxi is the northern part of Shaanxi Province,and its geographical scope covers the south of the Ordos Plateau,the west of the Luliang Mountains,the north of the Fenwei Basin and the east of the Ziwuling Mountains.On the basis of systematically collecting the excavation materials of tombs in the Shang and Zhou dynasties published over the years,this paper studies the burial customs of the tombs,in order to have a glimpse of the dynamic development of the burial customs in the northern Shaanxi tombs during the Shang and Zhou dynasties and the society it reflects phenomenons.The research in this paper takes several large-scale cemeteries that have been announced as the starting point to discuss the development of the times.The analysis found that the custom of animal sacrific in northern Shaanxi experienced its germination from the late Western Zhou Dynasty to the early and middle Spring and Autumn Period,and then gradually developed and prospered in the early and middle Warring States Period,and finally declined and disappeared in the late Warring States Period.The thesis is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduction introduces the current research status of the Shang and Zhou archaeological discoveries,animal sacrifice and burial custom in northern Shaanxi and the research methods,purpose and significance of this paper.The second chapter collects and organizes the information of 9 cemeteries in the Shang and Zhou dynasties in northern Shaanxi based on the existing administrative unit divisions,determines the age of typical tombs,and divides the tombs into four phases.The third chapter mainly divides the tombs in this area into four grades by sorting out the characteristics of the tomb burial system and burial customs,combined with the scale of the tombs and the characteristics of the funerary objects,and discusses the changes in the grades of the tombs under different stages development lays the groundwork.The fourth chapter analyzes and compares the characteristics of animal sacrifice in each cemetery,and discusses the changes of sacrifice in each cemetery in combination with the stages and burial grades.By investigating the development of animal sacrifice in the surrounding areas of northern Shaanxi and making a horizontal and regional comparison,the development process of animal sacrifice custom in Shang and Zhou dynasties in northern Shaanxi is summarized.The fifth chapter is the concluding part.By sorting out the development and changes of the sacrificial custom in the tombs of Shang and Zhou burials in northern Shaanxi,it summarizes the main characteristics of sacrificial animal sacrifice in the Shang and Zhou dynasties in northern Shaanxi from six aspects,such as the type,quantity,and placement of animal sacrifices.
