| 2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Kuancheng Manchu Autonomous County.In order to publicize the Manchu culture in Kuancheng county,Manchu History in Kuancheng County was published.The source text selected in this translation report is Manchu History in Kuancheng County.This book is compiled by the Bureau of Ethnic and Religious Affairs of Kuancheng Manchu Autonomous County and the Economic and Cultural Development Promotion Association of Kuancheng Manchu Autonomous County.The content of the translation task is from Chapter 9 to Chapter 11 in Manchu History in Kuancheng County.The actual number of translation words is more than 30000,including Manchu language,culture,art and customs in Kuancheng county of Hebei province,which have great research value.Guided by translational action theory,the translator summarized feasible translation methods and techniques by using case analysis and comparative analysis from three dimensions: the text-processing action,the intentional interaction and the intercultural action.From the perspective of the text-processing action,at the lexical level,the translator often uses literal translation,word-for-word translation,paraphrase and transliteration.At the syntactical level,the transformation of sentence patterns is discussed.At the textual level,the cohesion of structure and semantic coherence can be achieved by adding cohesive words.From the perspective of the intentional interaction,at the lexical level,idiomatic translation,imitation,transliteration,paraphrase and free translation are widely used to reduce ambiguity.At the syntactical level,translation methods and techniques will be applied to make expression differences between the East and West reasonable,such as idiomatic translation and changing the active sentence to the passive one.At the textual level,on the basis of understanding the source text,the translator analyzes and reorganizes the text in order to be concise and faithful to the source text.From the perspective of the intercultural action,while translating culture-loaded words,the translator uses imitation,paraphrase,free translation,transliteration,annotation and addition.When the source text contains sentences with Chinese characteristics,literal translation and paraphrase are usually applied.Manchu culture is an important part of Chinese culture.However,in recent years,research is rarely done on Manchu culture and customs.Therefore,the reporter aims to provide reference for English learners and other translators,hoping to contribute to the promotion of Manchu culture in the reporter’s hometown,Kuancheng Manchu Autonomous County. |
