In the context of economic globalization,China's chemical industry has gained rapid development through diligence and positive attitude despite of a humble start-up.Absorbing the advanced science and technology of developed countries and keeping up with the pace of innovation are the requirements of time for the industry as well as translators.Considering the internship experience of the author and the present situation of translation,Methyl Cellulose,an application submitted to the UK Food Standards Agency by Dow Wolff Cellulosics,is chosen for the translation report.Dow has developed a new function of methyl cellulose,which is used as a novel food ingredient to increase satiety,thus,Dow seeks approval to market methyl cellulose in EU.As one of the leading manufacturer in the industry,the function development and application mode of Dow can effectively help the domestic chemical industry to grasp the trend of cellulose products.And the translation practice can not only help to transfer the translation results into productivity,but the analysis of translation theory and method can also guide this practice,improving the translation quality and providing reference for the same type text.The translation practice is guided by the theory of translational action of Justa Holz Mantarri.The theory of translational action regards translation as an object-driven and result-oriented human interaction,with the purpose of transmitting cross-language and cross-cultural information,ans it also makes a distinction between the "translational action" and "translation".As the translation and the translational behavior is a dynamic process,which involves a series of roles and participants,these roles are analyzed as well.The paper aims to analyze the translation method for the scientific-technological informative text with five parts,i.e.,introduction,text analysis,translation process description,case analysis under the theory and conclusion.The roles and participants involved are analyzed in the paper to clarify the goals of all parties and the effect of the target text.In addition,the human interaction,cross-cultural communication and text processing are considered in order to choose proper methods for the word and sentence translation of the source text,aiming to reproduce the source information accurately and effectively and achieving the translation goal.
