| In the prehistoric pottery decorations in the southeast coastal areas, there are a large number of seashell tooth prints, seashell prints, and seashell carving patterns.Through simulation experiments, the morphological characteristics of these patterns are clarified, and we found that the crescent stamp patterns of the Bronze Age in the middle and lower reaches of the Jinjiang River are stamped by the flake protrusions raised on the surface of the spiral shell, which is called the spiral stamp pattern in this paper. In this paper, these decorative patterns made by seashells are unified as seashell patterns. They are regarded as a whole research object, and related studies such as evolution, environment, means of livelihood, and cultural connotation are carried out to have a clear understanding of the development process and reasons for these patterns. In this paper, the patterns made by seashells in the southeast coastal area were rescreened, and all kinds of patterns were arranged in chronological order.Combined with the pottery type, location, coexistence pattern, and pottery characteristics, the evolution of its morphological characteristics was analyzed. It was discovered that the coastal area of Fujian, the Pearl River Delta, and the middle and lower reaches of the Jinjiang River were three different systems, which were widespread with seashell tooth print, seashell carving pattern and spiral stamp pattern, and a small number of seashell prints existed in the first two systems.Seashell tooth printing is the use of seashell tooth edge embossing saw tooth or wavy decoration, there are two kinds of continuous embossing and segmented embossing. From the early Neolithic, seashell tooth printing began to appear in the Qihedong site, from multi-row or tortuous distribution gradually evolved into segmented group distribution.Although the coastal areas of the lower reaches of the Minjiang River, the coastal islands of the southern Fujian and the eastern Guangdong have different cultural development sequences, the pattern made by seashells is produced under the same background and the same aesthetic concept. The seashell carving pattern has several parallel patterns drawn by the tooth edge of the shell. There are two kinds of lines and arc lines. From the Xiantouling culture to the Baojingwan relic period, the pattern becomes simple, but the shape remains unchanged.Patterns like waves may have the meaning of blessing navigation.Shell prints also show different styles in the two systems. In the coastal areas of Fujian, they are closer to the shape of the shell itself, while in the Pearl River Delta, they are radial dotted lines. The number of spiral stamp pattern is small, and they are distributed in the hilly areas of the middle and lower reaches of the Jinjiang River Basin. The ornamentation is closely stamped on argillaceous, hard or primitive ceramics, forming a row of crescent patterns, belonging to the bronze age ornamentation, which should be made from a unified ceramic kiln. |
