A Practice Report On The E-C Translation Of Surviving The War In Syria(Chapter Two)

The translated text selected in this report is an academic work on world history entitled Surviving the War in Syria,which was published by Oxford University Press in 2021 by Middle East scholar Justin Shane.The author wrote the book based on the events of Syrian refugees who fled to Turkey,the living conditions of Syrian refugees in Turkey and the author’s interviews with local Syrian refugees.Due to its concise style,objective views and rigorous expression,the book fully embodies the professionalism and objectivity of academic works.The translation practice text selected in this report is the second chapter of Surviving the War in Syria.The source text is 10,099 words and the translation text is 19,796 words.Under the guidance of Reiss’ s Text Typology Theory,this translation practice is oriented by the informative function of the text and aims at being close to the expression of the target language,and carries out targeted translation process from the three levels of vocabulary,syntax and text.At the lexical level,it is necessary to accurately convey the true information of Syrian refugees in the source text.At the syntactic level,it is based on conveying information and focuses on the internal logic of sentence expression in the target language.At the textual level,it deals with the semantic cohesion and coherence of the whole target text.Through the study,analysis and summary of the translation practice of Chapter II of the Surviving the War in Syria,this report reflects the important guiding role of the Text Typology Theory in the translation of the selected text,enriches the Chinese translation study of interview texts in academic works,and promotes the author’s translation ability to a certain extent.It is expected that this translation practice can provide some reference for translation practice of the same type of texts.
