A Report On The E-C Translation Of Passive Structures In The Sixth Chapter Of Advanced Automobile Fault Diagnosis(The Fifth Edition)

In recent years,China implemented the "Enterprise Going Out" strategy actively,further strengthening scientific and cultural exchanges with other countries worldwide.The domestic and foreign engineering technology exchanges need concise,clear,smooth,and rigorous engineering technology translation texts.However,several existing engineering technology translations lack accuracy,scientific characteristics,and readability,especially in automobile engineering technology translation.Accordingly,in-depth research in automobile engineering text translation can promote the development of automobile technology in and give suggestion for translators in automobile field.This report focuses on the English passive structure translation skills in automobile engineering technology text by combining Reiss’ s text type theory in language function,language characteristics,text focus,and translation purpose.Trough the translation practice,the translator realizes that three translation skills can be applied to accurately and faithfully convey passive structures of the source text into Chinese under the guidance of the text type.The first translation transforms the passive structure into Chinese active structure,including the subject as the object,passive structure as adjectives,and adding the subject.The second translation skill aims to convert the passive structure into the Chinese passive structure,including the Chinese notional passive structure or Chinese marked passive structure.The final translation skill tries to convert it into a Chinese subjectless sentence,including the subject and predicate as predicate,the subject as the object.This thesis is divided into five parts,the introduction part makes a brief outline on the background,requirements,importance,and structure of the translation report.The second part illustrates the requirement of pre-translation,the while-translation process and post-translation edition.Part three is the theoretical basis,including a brief introduction to text type theory and its application to technical text translation.The fourth part is a crucial chapter that summarizes the theoretical basis of previous studies in the translation of English passive structures and applying three appropriate translation skills under the guidance of Reiss’ s text type theory.The final part summarizes enlightenment,some harvests and suggestions in this translation practice.After accomplishing translation practice,the translator has and improved translation capabilities.Moreover,it’s hoped that this report will provide suggestions for translation enthusiasts and aspire those interested in this field.
