This translation practice material is selected from Chapter 20 and Chapter 25 of Understanding Global Cultures,co-authored by Martin J.Gannon and Rajnandini(Raj)Pillai. In this book, the author expounds unique culture and connotation of every country from the aspects of history, customs, education, family values, religious beliefs, and commercial development.Since ancient times, the important role of culture in all aspects of national development is self-evident,and the study of such texts is of great significance. This practice report is divided into six parts, the first part introduces the research background, chapter one is a description of the translation task, chapter two is an overview of the translation process, and the third chapter mainly introduces George Steiner’s hermeneutics translation theory and the practicability of guiding the source text of this practice, chapter four is the most important part of this practice report, the specific cases are analyzed in this chapter. The last part is the summary of this translation practice.Through this translation practice, the author concluded that information-based texts should convey the information of original text objectively. In this process, hermeneutic translation theory has strong practical and guiding significance. At the lexical level, the author uses four-character case, word meaning extension,part-of-speech transformation, and other methods to make the expression of the words more accurate;at the syntactic level, the author“incorporate” the form and meaning of sentences to make them expressed authentically and accurately;at the level of discourse, through additional translation and other methods, the author hopes to ensure the coherence of the text.By summarizing experience and skills during this process, the author hopes to provide convenience for readers and related scholars to understand the global cultures, and to provide inspiration and suggestions for the study of cultural information texts.
