Narratology,a discipline started late in China,has not received the attention it deserves compared with other disciplines.However,there is no way to ignore its huge humanistic significance and cultural value of the field.Storytelling Rights is the masterpiece of Amy Shuman who is an expert at narrative research.The book focuses on the right of storytelling,which has an impressive influence on the field.Thus,its translation can serve as an engine to promote the development of the related academic circle in China.The translator,from the perspective of George Steiner’s hermeneutic theory of translation,translated the first chapter through the fourfold hermeneutic motion: trust,aggression,incorporation and compensation.The report consists of five chapters: an overview of the translation project,the translation process,George Steiner’s hermeneutic theory of translation,the case analysis and conclusion.Firstly,the translation project is an introduction to the original text and the background of the translation task.Then,the process of translation task is the explanation of pre-task preparation,translation process and post-task control.And the third chapter is an introduction and analysis of the fourfold hermeneutic motion,namely,trust,aggression,incorporation and compensation,in George Steiner’s hermeneutic theory of translation.Case analysis is the interpretation of translation practice under the guidance of George Steiner’s hermeneutic theory of translation.Lastly,conclusion is a summary of the report and its disadvantages as well as inspirations.Through the report of translation,the translator believes the theory is applicable to the translation of narrative texts,and the translator expects that the report can provide some reference for the translation of such book.
