The Last Bookshop in London,a novel written by American writer Madeline Martin, was published on April 6,2021.There are 22 chapters in it.The translator selects three chapters(chapter 20,21 and epilogue)of this novel to translate. These three chapters contain a large number of action description, language description of the characters and environment description.Based on the vivid language, rich use of verbs and detailed description of the environment, how to flexibly use various translation strategies and skills to accurately restore the language characteristics and writing style of the original text is the key and difficult point of this translation. The translator takes the “three rules” of Skopos Theory(Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule)as the guiding theory for the translation practice. The translator uses examples from the perspective of vocabulary, sentence and chapter to explore how this theory guides such translation practice. At the vocabulary level, the translator analyzes the meaning of the words and selects literal translation, free translation, amplification and conversion on the basis of trying to restore the style of the original text Part of speech translation; At the sentence level, the translator flexibly uses the change of the voices, inversion, division and combination to make her translation smooth and express the original meaning, which is in line with the expression habits of the target language readers; At the textual level, the translator starts with cohesion and coherence to achieve the coherence of information between the chapters and enhance the readability of the translation.Through the translation practice, the translator hopes to improve translation ability as well as provide some reference for other translators.
