A Report On The Translation Of An Excerpt From Corpus Linguistics For World Englishes

Corpus Linguistics for World English studies world Englishes by tools and approaches of applied corpus linguistics,which injects new vitality into the study of world Englishes.This translation practice chooses this book for translation,hoping to provide support for the research in this field.Because of the rapid development of neural network machine translation,the quality of machine translation has been greatly improved,and the mode of "machine translation plus post-translation editing" has gradually become the mainstream translation practice mode.This translation practice uses post-translation editing method to translate English into Chinese.Translation practice includes initial translation with machine translation system,post-translation editing,classification and labeling of translation errors,revision methods.By analyzing and summarizing different errors in machine translation sentences,errors found in machine translation can be roughly divided into three categories:(1)Machine translation errors at the lexical level(terminology mistranslation,common vocabulary mistranslation,missing translation,under translation,redundancy,etc.)account for 43%;(2)Machine translation errors at the sentence level(voice mistranslation,collocation mistranslation,logical relation mistranslation,tense mistranslation,syntactic role mistranslation,punctuation mistranslation,etc.)account for 38%;(3)Machine translation errors at the text level(mistranslation of metaphor,mistranslation of word order,etc.)account for 19%.The methods of addition,omission,substitution,order adjustment and structural reorganization are used for revision.According to the distribution of machine translation errors,this report suggests that the machine translation system should focus on optimizing and improving vocabulary and sentences,while human translators should pay attention to the mistranslation of terms and common vocabulary,concretization of general literal meaning,word order adjustment in machine translation revision.Compared with machine translation,translators can find and correct the shortcomings of machine translation system in terms of aesthetic words,emotional words,style,cohesion,coherence,etc.Post-translation editing can largely make up for the defects of machine translation and ensure the quality of the translated text to the greatest extent.
