In recent years, biographical works are very popular among young readers.More such books are introduced in China, which has a good impact on enriching the collection of such books. However, translation studies on these works have a long way to go.Therefore, the translator chooses Cocaine’s Son:A Memoir(Chapters I,II and III)as the translation text, aiming to summarize the translation strategies of the memoir from several aspects.Guided by Gutt’s relevance translation theory, the report aims to solve difficulties in the translation of such texts including understanding the intentions of the original author and expressing the intentions clearly and smoothly so that the target readers have similar reading experience with the original readers. Then, some translation methods are summarized from the lexical, sentential and discoursal levels. At the lexical level, the translator analyzes the meaning of the words and selects annotation, transliteration, omission and conversion. From the syntactic perspective, the translator uses some methods to change the voices and the subjects to avoid translationese. At the discoursal level, cohesion and coherence are two important topics discussed in the report. In order to improve fluency and readability as well as achieve optimal relevance, amplification and ellipsis have been adopted.Through the translation practice, the translator has gotten a deeper understanding of relevance translation theory and hopes to provide some reference for biographical translation in the future.
