Suicides among adolescents have become more common in recent years. The COVID-19 pandemic aggravates this phenomenon.Depression is a high-risk factor for suicide. However,it continues to go unrecognized and definitely undertreated among adolescents. Therefore,it is time for us to further understand the relationship between depression and suicide. The source text is excerpted from Public Health Perspectives on Depression Disorders, which introduces the intervention methods for adolescent depression, related risk factors of suicide, and the relationship between suicide and depression.Through this translation, the translator hopes to help domestic scholars in the medical field master the research status of adolescent depression and awaken the public’s attention to teenagers’ mental health. This report comprises five parts.Chapter one,"Introduction," outlines the background and significance of this translation practice and gives an analysis of the source text.Chapter two,"Theoretical Support," introduces the development of relevance translation theory and its three core concepts.Chapter 3,"Translation Process," explains the complete process of this practice. In the most critical chapter of this report—case study, under the guidance of the relevance translation theory, with the principle of optimal relevance, the translator selects classic examples in practice to summarize the translation skills and methods employed in medical translation. At the lexical level,it mainly discusses the translation of terminologies and points out that translators can use literal, free,or zero translation techniques to faithfully convey the intentions of the original author. At the syntactic level, given the considerations of readers’ contextual environments, amplification, omission, and division are instrumental techniques in dealing with long and complex sentences. At the textual level,to transmit optimal relevance to readers, translators can adopt omission, conversion, and maintenance based on differences in the use of cohesive devices between Chinese and English. Finally, the last Chapter,"conclusion," summarizes the findings and shortcomings of this translation.
