| Sun Yat Sen Institute For the Advancement of Culture and Education was founded in 1933 by Sun Ke,son of Sun Yat sen,as an academic institution.After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War in 1937,the Institute was relocated to Chongqing.With the concept of researching for society,emphasizing culture for reality,and theory for practice,the institute actively participated in propaganda work such as war mobilization and postwar reconstruction.These publishing achievements and practical propositions of the institute have not only enriched the connotation of anti-war culture,but also promoted the study of modern Chinese newspaper history,translation history and publishing history.This thesis takes Sun Yat Sen Institute For the Advancement of Culture and Education as the research object,and selects the special period from 1937 to 1948 in the longitudinal time dimension.It first compares the development history of the institute,then makes a systematic summary of the publication and propaganda work of it,analyzes the outstanding contributions of the institute in war mobilization and cultural construction,and explores its ideological propositions behind cultural production and practice.The research finds that Sun Yat Sen Institute For the Advancement of Culture and Education took publication as the carrier of cultural construction and the position of elucidating thoughts.The institute actively engaged in publishing and editing,promoted the development of wartime culture and passed on its values.From 1937 to 1942,Sun Yat Sen Institute For the Advancement of Culture and Education focused on "Anti-war Propaganda" and strived to be a force for good in extraordinary times.The institute created a special edition of Current Affairs Series,published seven Anti-Japanese War Series and 103 War Prevention Series in nine categories,and sponsored the publication of T’IEN HSIA MONTHLY.In terms of propaganda,the institute exposed the nature of the Japanese invasion of China from three aspects: war blame,war mobilization and war unity,organized the people to persist in the war,and emphasized the importance of the united front."Post-war reconstruction" was the central theme of the institute from 1942 to 1948,both in terms of the institute’s own reconstruction and the importance it attached to national reconstruction.During this period,the institute focused on research,translation of world academic works,publication of the Sun Yat Sen Culture Quarterly,publication of the Post-war World Essay Collection and the Post-war World Construction Research Series,and advocacy of national independence,civil rights and freedom,and people’s happiness.It should be noted,however,that in terms of its own orientation and practice,the institute also has shortcomings.Although the institute boasts academic freedom and independence,it is difficult for it to be completely free from political constraints and ties. |
