Having won the Best Picture at the 92 nd Academy Awards and the Palme d’Or at the 72 nd Cannes Film Festival, the film Parasite was screened and received worldwide attention from film fans and academics alike because of its exciting and lucid plot that exposes the sharp perspectives of class conflicts in Korean society. The author became interested in the structure of Parasite’s script in the process of researching the screenplay.Focusing on screenwriting theory books,I compared Parasite’s script structure with Joseph Campbell’s "Hero’s Journey" theory, which I have been focusing on and studying, and tried to compare the two in order to clarify Parasite’s script structure. The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of the logic of the Hero’s Journey theory in storytelling, and to explore the implications of the Hero’s Journey theory for screenwriters in their storytelling. In three chapters of the text, the author will analyze and elaborate on the embodiment and application of the "Hero’s Journey" in Parasite, express his understanding of the various stages of the "Hero’s Journey",and demonstrate the specific principles of the theory’s use in actual writing. The professional ability demonstration part is the author’s research result after studying this theory, namely the creation of the graduation short film " The Earthworm Club ",which is the result of his study of this theory. While presenting the synopsis and creative concept, this chapter covers the logic of how the author applied the knowledge of the "Hero’s Journey" theory to the creation of the script. The script is a short story created by the author after studying the application of the "Hero’s Journey" principle in Parasite’s script structure, and it is closely related to the author’s understanding and application of the "Hero’s Journey" principle. |
