As a product of modern Western media technology,film was introduced to China in the early 20 th century and took root in the country,gradually integrating with traditional Chinese culture.From "theater" to "film",from borrowing many expressions from theater,to the integrated and diversified development of film and theater,to the development of film as an independent art,gradually free from the shackles of theater,the Chinese film industry has finally completed the concept of "Yingxi(Film-Drama)" with Chinese characteristics.The development of the concept of "Yingxi(Film-Drama)" in China has not remained unchanged,but has gone from "film theater as drama" to "film theater as film drama" and then to "film theater as cinema"."It is engraved with the filmmakers’ concept of film development and has become an important page in the history of modern Chinese art along with the vigorous development of the film industry.This paper will focus on the development of the films of Lianhua Film Company(1931-1937)in the context of modern transformation as an entry point for the study,trying to explore the historical origin and cultural background of the concept of"Yingxi(Film-Drama)",as well as its transmutation process and aesthetic characteristics from the macro perspective of the confrontation and integration of Chinese and Western cultures,commercial competition and popular culture.The concept of "Yingxi(Film-Drama)" is a symbol of the relationship between the public and the private.The concept of"Yingxi(Film-Drama)" has provided Lianhua Film with new concepts and technical means,and the re-promotion of the concept of drama has given the film a more ambitious narrative space,and the pursuit of the nature of film has also reflected the law of development of film itself.It is Precisely under the continuous exploration and discussion of the concept of"Yingxi(Film-Drama)" that Chinese national cinema has gradually developed its own independent aesthetic character and aesthetic pursuit,and finally formed a national cinema form and style with great local characteristics.The introductory part of this paper presents the background,purpose and significance of the study,the current situation and proposes a feasible research method.The first chapter explores the historical background and cultural environment of the birth of Lianhua Film Company in the midst of modern transformation,and sorts out the origin of the concept of "Yingxi(Film-Drama)" and its changes in modern urban cultural life.The second,third and fourth chapters explain the representative concepts of "film theater" at different stages of its development: "Yingxi(Film-Drama)" as a drama;"Yingxi(Film-Drama)" as a film drama;"Yingxi(Film-Drama)" as an independent art;"Yingxi(Film-Drama)" as an independent art;It further analyzes the connotations of the three conceptions of cinema and their corresponding aesthetic characteristics,and supplements and deepens the discussion with the example of the director of Lianhua Film Company and his works.The concluding section concludes with a summary of the emergence and transmutation of the concept of cinema,and a profound reflection and re-conceptualization,with a view to demonstrating the positive significance of the reference to current film production.
