For Chinese students, the school is an important place for their studying, and the importance of the classroom to them cannot be overstated. With the advancement of curriculum reform, students’ autonomous learning ability is gaining more and more attention from researchers at home and abroad. Therefore, whether the classroom environment has an influence on students’ English autonomous learning has become a question worthy of further study. In view of this, this study aims to discuss the relationship between the two and provide some feasible help for English teaching in the high school.Based on Lewin’s field dynastic theory and humanistic learning theory, this study uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods to explore what students perceive about the classroom environment and their current status of autonomous learning in English in a senior high school in Kunming,Yunnan Province,to analyze the relationship between the two.Three questions are proposed to be analyzed in this study: 1)What is the overall perception tendency of the current English classroom environment among senior high school students? 2)What is the current situation of senior high students’ autonomous learning? 3)What is the correlation between English classroom environment and students’ autonomous learning in the high school? The quantitative analysis of the collected questionnaire data through software SPSS26.0 and the qualitative analysis of the interviews with 10 randomly selected students led to the following conclusions: 1)At present, senior high school students’ have a good perception to their English classroom environment, and the two main dimensions with greater differences are teacher support and student cohesiveness;2)Overall,students’ English autonomous learning is moderate, with the differences in the two aspects of understanding learning goals and making learning plans;3)As a whole, there is a significant positive correlation between senior high school students’ perception of English classroom environment and their autonomous learning, and it is remarkable that the dimension of student cohesiveness in classroom environment does not affect students’ autonomous learning.Based on the results of the quantitative and qualitative analyses, this study also makes recommendations for the actual teaching of English: 1)Teachers should strive to create a positive and harmonious English classroom environment;2)Teachers are supposed to provide students with opportunities for cooperative learning so that they can develop close relationships;3)Teachers ought to help students make learning plans that suit their needs and promote deeper autonomous learning;4)Teachers are also required to strengthen the training of students’ English learning strategies and help them use the appropriate learning strategies in different learning activities.
