| English class is the main place for English teaching in school,which has a positive influence on students’ development.According to the latest new English curriculum standard,not only should teachers guide students’ English learning strategies,but they should also cultivate students’ good learning habits and develop students’ autonomous learning ability in the classroom environment.Meanwhile,teachers usually guide students in a class,so the teacher creates a positive classroom environment is beneficial to develop students’ autonomous learning ability.The present study aims to explore three questions as follows.1.What is the general situation of high school student’s perceptions on English classroom environment?2.What is the status quo of high school student’s English autonomous learning ability?3.Is there any correlation between English classroom environment and high school student’s English autonomous learning ability? If yes,how are they related to each other?In order to make research about the general situation of high school students’ perception of English classroom environment and the general status quo of students’ English autonomous learning ability,324 students were selected by the study.These participants are from a key high school and an ordinary school in Laibin.Data were collected by questionnaires and an interview.SPSS23.0 was used to conduct a quantitative analysis of the questionnaire data.Meanwhile,qualitative analysis was used to analyze the interview results.Through the analysis on the data collected,the major findings involve the following aspects:(1)The general situation of students’ perception is relatively good.Students in different classes have different perceptions,especially in task orientation.Students with different English grade levels have different perceptions in four factors of classroom environment,namely teacher support,cooperation,students’ cohesiveness and task orientation.(2)The general status quo of students’ English autonomous learning ability is relatively good.Students in different classes have different autonomous learning abilities,learning motivation,learning time,learning strategy,learning process and learning environment are reflected in this difference.Students with different English proficiency have different autonomous learning abilities,which six autonomous learning ability factors are reflected in it.(3)High school English classroom environment is related to students’ English autonomous learning ability.Four classroom environment factors are positively related to students’ English autonomous learning ability,namely teacher support,cooperation,task orientation and class order.However,students’ cohesiveness is negatively related to students’ English autonomous learning ability.According to the results,the present study gains some pedagogical implications in the following:(1)creating a question situation in the class;(2)creating a positive and harmonious classroom environment;(3)using some teaching methods properly in English lessons;(4)forming the teaching way of student-centered in English lesson;(5)interacting with students flexibly;(6)showing charm and teaching styles in the whole class;(7)providing and teaching some English learning strategies to students in different English lesson types;(8)leading students to explore comprehensive evaluations.It is hoped that this study can provide a reference to exploring similar issues in this field. |
