Literary Imagination Of Industrialization In New China

As a major literary creation theme juxtaposed with agricultural theme and revolutionary history theme,industrial theme has always been advocated by the state and literary circles.Although its overall creative achievements are not as good as the two,its thinking on the road of socialist industrialization is profound.The seventeen year industrial novels not only show the hot scene of industrial construction and the positive spiritual outlook of workers in the period of socialist exploration and construction in New China,but also try to build a development path that can realize industrialization and socialism together with national ideology.This paper divides the seventeen year industrial novels into early and late parts according to different publishing years.The early industrial novels were published from 1949 to 1956 and the later industrial novels were published from 1957 to 1966.The first chapter defines the subject and classification of industrial novels in the past17 years,and briefly describes the differences between industrial novels written by professional writers and those written by ordinary workers.The second chapter expounds the relationship between the leading thought of the industrialization process in this period "socialist industrialization" and industrial novels,puts forward two different models: "Soviet style socialist industrialization road" and "Mao Zedong style socialist industrialization road",and analyzes the influence of these two models in different periods on the seventeen year industrial novels.The third and fourth chapters illustrate how the road of socialist industrialization is constructed through imaginative writing by analyzing the specific texts of industrial novels in different periods.The third chapter analyzes the novel texts such as locomotive,steel artery and running iron.Although the industrial novels of this period were published after the founding of the People’s Republic of China,the novels describe the content of the party organization receiving factories and realizing production recovery before and after the founding of the People’s Republic of China.Stabilizing social order,guiding workers and resuming production and construction are the common themes of industrial novels in this period.At the same time,the presence of the obvious revolutionary war makes the industrial novels in this period have a distinctive color of war,How to pull workers back to the track of revolution and establish workers’ sense of ownership is also the focus of industrial novels in this period.The novels analyzed in Chapter 4,such as "in a peaceful day","riding the wind and waves","refining into steel" and so on,focus on the industrialization construction in peacetime and explore the industrialization road belonging to socialist China."Socialist industrialization" is the common theme of this period,Revolutionary tradition and revolutionary spirit are the spiritual connotation of industrial novels in this period.The last part of the fifth chapter analyzes the structural contradiction between the seventeen year industrial novels and the thought of "socialist industrialization",and puts forward the possibility of further thinking on issues such as the transformation of intellectuals and bureaucracy in industrial novels.
