This article takes the Cantonese dialect documents compiled by Western missionaries or Chinese scholars since the 19th century as the object of investigation,and makes an exhaustive description and analysis of the double-object sentence patterns in them.On the basis of showing the basic appearance of Cantonese dialect double-object sentences at various stages since the 19th century,the law and motivation of its development and evolution are discussed.The thesis includes four chapters in total.The first chapter introduces the related research status of Mandarin Chinese double-object sentences and dialect double-object sentences,the purpose and significance of the thesis writing,and gives a detailed description of the research methods of the thesis and the Cantonese dialect literature investigated in this paper.The second and third chapters discuss the development and changes of Cantonese dialect double-object sentences since the 19th century from the perspectives of marked and unmarked before indirect objects and the semantic characteristics of double-object verbs entering sentence patterns.During this period,the Cantonese dialect double-object sentence patterns mainly included "V+Oi+Od","V+Od+Oi","V+Od+过+Oi" and "V+Od+俾+Oi".Since the 19th century,the Cantonese dialect double-object sentence structure mainly expresses the meaning of "giving".The verbs that can enter the double-object sentence pattern in Cantonese dialect include the meaning of "giving","getting" and "speaking".The fourth chapter is the conclusion,which summarizes the article and explains the shortcomings.
