The Qing dynasty is a period of great success for the study of Su Shi,as well as a golden age for the development of classical poetic discourse in China, and the Qing Qianlong period is particularly prosperous. The scope of this thesis is the poetic discourse of the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, and the object of study is Su Shi in poetic discourse at this time.Su Shi’s poetry is the main focus, his literary thought and image are supplementary,Su Shi’s cí poetry and articles are slightly included. It combs, analyses and summarises the main contents and typical features of the poetic discourse on Su Shi during the Qianlong period, delves into three poetic cases for specific analysis, and explores the aesthetic value of scholars’ commentaries on Su Shi in the context of the particular era in conjunction with the ancient theory of received poetics in China at the same time. The poetic discourses of the Qianlong period of the Qing dynasty, which are the subject of this thesis, are mainly covered in "the Qing Poetic Discourses" "the Qing Poetic Discourses Continued" "Three Editions of the Qing Poetic Discourses" and "the Qing Poetic Discourses Complete-Qianlong Period".According to the author’s statistics,a total of 51 of these poetic discourses are relevant to the content of this thesis. This thesis is divided into four chapters.Firstly, the general cultural environment of the Qing dynasty is used as a starting point to discuss the overview of poetic discourse during the Qianlong period, the reasons for the flourishing of poetic discourse and the attitude towards Su Shi,who was commented on in poetic discourse with an individual eclectic tendency derived from an overall positive attitude at this time. The overall image of Su Shi is constructed from the point of view of the poetry critic, attributing to him a literary master who was highly talented and knowledgeable,easy-going and witty.Secondly,Su Shi’s poetic art, literary theory and the fact that he is comparable to the famous poets of the Tang and Song dynasties are discussed in three specific ways, explaining the respectful attitude to the Qianlong poetic discourse towards Su Shi.The main argument is that Su Shi’s poetry uses a wide range of allusions and is good at choosing them, and the clever use of the phrase "to take away the tires and change the bones" is highly appreciated.Su Shi’s poetic theories, such as "poetry must be created with a purpose" "if poetry is confined to this poem, then the poet must not know how to write poetry" and "indifference",had the most profound influence on the poetic discourse at this time. The poetic discourse considers Su Shi to be at a height comparable with the sages of the Tang and Song dynasties.Once again, the three most valuable poetic discourses are selected as case studies.Shen Deqian’s "Shuo Shi Zui Yu" argues that Su Shi’s poetry opened up a new realm of poetry, and is most concerned with Su Shi’s theory of poetry.Weng Fangzang’s "Shi Zhou Poetic Discourse" has the greatest admiration for Su Shi.He suggests that Su Shi’s poetry is large in scope and can subtly achieve the realm of expressing the subject of the poem while being characterized by freedom of variation.Yuan Mei’s "Sui Yuan Poetic Discourse" suggests that Su’s poems are short on emotion, but still recognizes Su Shi’s poetic talent. Finally,a theoretical summary of Su Shi’s reception activities in the poetic discourse of the Qianlong period is combined with the views of ancient Chinese reception poetics to advance the final presentation of the aesthetic values in the previous view.
