| Writing antiphon poems(including both poems and Ci poems)is a long-standing tradition in ancient China.Critics of several dynasties criticized or admired it from a variety of perspectives,but it is difficult to change the long-term preference of many literati for this particular form of literary creation and social intercourse.In the Qing Dynasty,antiphon poems of various forms and themes proliferated.Chen Weisong,a famous writer of the early Qing Dynasty,had outstanding achievements in many literary fields,including poems,Ci poems and the parallel prose.During his whole life,he travelled extensively in the country and made friends with literati from the north and the south,and had in-depth contacts with many literary groups,including the adherents Of Ming Dynasty in the early Qing Dynasty,the turncoat officials,the new officials,etc.The need for literary acceptance and to keep social intercourse with the literati prompted Chen Weisong to create a large number of antiphon poems.This thesis researches Chen Weisong’s antiphon poems,and concludes the characteristics of his various antiphon poems,the literary acceptance showing in his antiphon poems with poets of different dynasties,and the changes in his mentality reflected in his antiphon poems with people of the same generation.The first chapter of the thesis provides some facts studies of Chen Weisong’s antiphon poems on the basis of other scholars’ previous studies.The second chapter discusses the characteristics of his different type of antiphon poems,including functions of social connection in Chen Weisong’s antiphon poems with poets of different dynasties,the difference and reason of his poems and Ci poems in his antiphon poems with himself,and the geographical distribution of his collaborators in the antiphon poems with poets of the same generation.The third chapter analyses the literary acceptance embodied in Chen Weisong’s antiphon poems with poets of different dynasties.Taking the perspective of literature acceptance,thesis analysed his antiphon poems with poets of the Middle and Late Tang dynasties and his mid-and late-period antiphon poems with Song poets,and exploring Chen Weisong’s subjectivity characteristics in the literarature acceptance.The thesis also explores under the influence of his Ci concepts of respecting Ci’s value,how he used the inditing of antiphon Ci poems as a path to learning Ci poems,and harmonised various Ci poems styles and improve Ci pattern.The fourth chapter explores Chen Weisong’s mentality in the various stages of his life reflected in his antiphon poems,from the perspective of group intercourse.During the period when the atmosphere of adherent of Ming Dynasty was stronger,Chen Weisong’s antiphon poems recorded his change of emotions and ideas with community of the literati who had experienced the changing of dynasty.When he intended to enter the civil service,antiphon poems was also an important means of make friends with the powerful literati.In his later years,before and after he participated in for the Bo-Xue-Hong-Ci section in 1679,antiphon poems became a way for him to fulfil his role as a(quasi-)official of literature in embroidering the holy rule and embellishing the great generation.At the same time,the changes in his situation after joining the government and the characteristics of his personal character made him eventually alienated from the elegant sounds of other official literati such as Feng Pu and Mao Qiling. |
