A Study Of Silk In Dunhuang Documents Of Tang, Five Dynasties And Early Song Dynasty

Silk is a kind of plain silk fabric,which is very widely used,not only used in the daily life and religious life of Dunhuang people,but also can be exchanged as equivalent currency to play its monetary function.The social and economic documents retained in Dunhuang are quite extensive about silk,mainly seen in the gift gift calendar,point inspection calendar,entry calendar and contract documents.At present,the academic circle pays great attention to the silk objects produced in Dunhuang,and there is a lack of systematic research on the general situation,use and circulation of the silk recorded in Dunhuang documents.This paper selects typical silk as the main research object,with a large number of Dunhuang documents as historical materials,focusing on the use and circulation of silk in Dunhuang documents,so as to deeply explore the important role of silk in the social economy of Dunhuang in the Tang,Five Dynasties and early Song Dynasties.This study comprehensively sorted out the relevant contents of silk recorded in Dunhuang documents,and systematically studies the use and circulation of silk in Dunhuang in the Tang and early Song dynasties by using the historical literature method,platoon classification method and chart statistics method.First of all,the silk in Dunhuang documents is classified,and its naming characteristics,color characteristics and common sizes are summarized.Secondly,the use of silk contained in Dunhuang documents is summarized and analyzed from the two aspects of daily life silk and religious life silk.Thirdly,with the circulation of silk as the starting point,focus on the gift and trade of silk in Dunhuang in Tang,Five Dynasties and early Song Dynasty.Finally,the lending and monetary functions of silk in Dunhuang documents were explored,and the social phenomena reflected in the loan silk deed and the conversion of silk and other commodities were summarized.To sum up,this paper comprehensively sorts out all the contents related to silk in Dunhuang documents,and makes a comprehensive investigation on the classification,use,circulation and currency functions of silk,so as to deeply understand the social and economic reality of Dunhuang in the Tang,Five Dynasties and early Song Dynasty,and further explore the whole appearance of regional society in northwest China in the historical period.
