| Associative memory is the memory of relationships between items and items,items and contextual information.Memory performance after the Subject Performed Task(SPT)was better than the Verbal Task(VT),a phenomenon known as the enactment effect.The previous evidence for the enactment effect of associative memory was based on the SPT condition.Under the condition of Experimenter Performed Task(EPT),the relational information is paid more attention.So,compared to EPT,is SPT a more favorable coding condition for associative memory improvement? In addition,the verb phrases(eg,cutting a watermelon)used in the study have strong associations between the action-object itself.Does the degree of association between paired items affect the effect of SPT? Based on this,two studies were conducted to investigate whether SPT is more conducive to the improvement of associative memory,and further explore the effect of action-object connection degree on associative memory under SPT condition.Study 1 explored the whether SPT was more conducive to the improvement of associative memory,A mixed experimental design of 3(encoding condition: SPT,EPT,VT)×3(test type: old,recombinant,new)was adopted,The mixed-design ANOVA results showed that the correct rate under the SPT condition was significantly higher than that under the EPT and VT conditions,while the correct rate under the EPT and VT conditions was not different.The results showed that the EPT condition did not improve associative memory by improving relationships,and the SPT condition was more conducive to the improvement of associative memory.Experiment 2 explored the effect of action-object association on associative memory under SPT condition.A mixed experimental design of 2(encoding condition:SPT,VT)×2(material type: Well-integrated,poorly-integrated)×3(test type: old,recombinant,new)was adopted.The mixed-design ANOVA results showed that there was no significant difference in associative recognition scores between the SPT condition and the VT condition when recognizing well-integrated and poorly-integrated phrases.This may be that high-frequency word dominance improves the performance of associative memory in the VT condition,thereby weakening the difference between the SPT condition and the VT condition.Therefore,Study 2b further tested the hypothesis after controlling for the effect of word frequency.The experimental results show that,after controlling for the effect of word frequency,the enactment effect of associative memory under SPT condition is affected by the degree of action-object connection.When the action-object connection degree is high,there is an enactment effect in the associative memory.On the contrary,when the action-object connection degree is weak,there is no enactment effect in the associative memory.The above two results show that SPT is more conducive to improving the performance of associative memory than EPT,and the enactment effect of associative memory under SPT condition is affected by the degree of action-object connection.When the action-object connection degree is high,there is an enactment effect in the associative memory.On the contrary,when the action-object connection degree is weak,there is no enactment effect in the associative memory.The current research uses action manipulation as a memory strategy,which broadens the thinking for the study of associative memory,and further enriches the related research on enactment effect and associative memory. |
