The English-chinese Translation Report Of Events Management From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

Functional Equivalence Theory was firstly proposed by the famous American translator Eugene Nida in 1964,with closest natural equivalence,four steps in the translation process,reader reaction,translation and communication and language culture and translation as its core concepts,emphasizing functional equivalence over formal equivalence,and holding that “equivalence” includes “lexical equivalence”,“syntactic equivalence”,“textual equivalence” as well as “stylistic equivalence”.The theory also advocates that the translated text should focus on both of the semantic meaning and cultural characteristics of the source language,which has important guiding significance for translation theory and translation practice.At present,domestic scholars for the research of event management translation,are still in the phase of emphasizing grammar and syntax instead of translation theory.Their researches mainly focus on the event management of all sub-fields,and the relevant translation standards and theoretical system are still not perfect.Therefore,the report,guided by the Functional Equivalence Theory,attempts to conduct the empirical research on the event management corpus in terms of lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.In How to Write a Report on Translation Practice,Professor Li Changshuan of Beijing Foreign Studies University proposed the CEA framework: compression,expression,and adaption.Meanwhile,other scholars suggested that postgraduate students of translation should also take the academic nature into account when writing the translation practice report.What’s more,doing much preparatory work in the “C”(compression)part of the CEA framework(including researching the relevant content involved in the translation process,exploring domestic and foreign literature,sorting out relevant theoretical frameworks and discussing the applicability of the theory utilized theoretically),is conductive for translators to better practice translating.Therefore,the author combined the characteristics of the CEA framework with academic papers to write this report and made a meaningful attempt to balance academic and practical aspects as much as possible.The report is divided into six chapters.Chapter one introduces the research background and significance,as well as the characteristics and nature of the original version.Chapter two analyzes the current research status of event management translation guided by Functional Equivalence Theory in theory and practice,highlights the missing content of related research,and summarizes previous related research.Chapter three discusses Functional Equivalence Theory and summarizes its core principles.Chapter four describes the author’s translation process before,during,and after translation,as well as how these processes are performed.Chapter five attempts to make a detailed case study,and the empirical study is conducted on the translation of event texts from three aspects:vocabulary,syntax and text,combined with the theory of functional equivalence.The sixth chapter is the conclusion,which summarizes the research findings,limitations and some suggestions for the future event text translation,putting forward the finite significance and practical value of this research in the event text translation.
