“Faith” is a topic in Kant’s Philosophy which is prone to be ignored.Contrary to some one-sided interpretation,“pure reason ” in Kant’s critical philosophy does not reject faith,it is compatible with faith in regard to its fundamental inclination. With critical investigation into the boundaries of the capacity of pure reason,we shall remove the barriers posed by certain way of the use of pure reason, which hinders moral faith, and reveal its true foundation in the practical use of pure reason. We can not only formulate the features of such a subjective attitude rationally by distinguishing between it and other subjective attitudes,i.e.knowledge and opinion. We can also provide through pure reason a justification for it.The defender of moral faith need to start from the standpoint of a moral agent. An actual moral agent feel the need from pure practical reason on the one hand, while is also restricted by the a priori existential finitude of man on the other hand. The highest good is the object of pure practical reason and the final end of moral agent. It is for sustaining their hope for the highest good that people need to postulate the objective reality of the idea of Immortality and God,and need to take these beings as the objects of their moral faith. The moral justification is not meant to be provided for these supersensible beings themselves, but for the ideas of such beings and to demonstrate their objective reality. And these ideas’ objective reality is their practical function,i.e.they should in some way help people maintain their hope for the highest good. Thus, people need to conceive such ideas under the condition of the final end of the highest good and man’s a priori existential finitude. The moral justification is valid when such ideas can help people strengthen their hope for the highest good.
