A Report On Chinese-English Translation Of Xi Jinping’s Seven Years Of Educated Youth (Educated Youth’s Talk)

This report takes the interview transcript of “Educated Youth Talk” in Xi Jinping’s Seven Years of Educated Youth as the source text for translation practice.Xi Jinping’s Seven Years of Educated Youth falls under the category of documentary literature.The main feature of the text is to narrate the facts in a natural language style.In addition,the idioms,food names and dialects involved in the book have distinct Shaanxi characteristics,attracting the interest and attention of readers from all walks of life.In the course of translation practice,the translator has sorted out the main problems in translation,such as translation of culture-loaded words,translation of dialects,translation of words with specific historical background,and translation of long and difficult sentences.On the basis of this,from the perspective of Skopos Theory,this report makes a systematic and specific analysis of translation strategies and techniques such as literal translation plus annotation,conversion of part of speech,reversing,free translation,amplification and omission etc.Under the guidance of the three rules of Skopos Theory,the translator has flexibly used various translation methods and solved the problems encountered in practice.Through the study of Xi Jinping’s Seven Years of Educated Youth,this report hopes to explore the theoretical guiding significance of Skopos Theory for the translation of documentary literary,so as to provide reference for other related studies.Taking this translation practice as an opportunity,the present author hopes to arouse more scholar’s attention to the Transaltion of documentary literature,and promote the diversified development of the translation practice of documentary literature.
