Nationalist Documentary or Mainstream Documentary,as the most representative documentary genre with Chinese Characteristics,records the mainstream ideology and spirit in each decade.In this new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics,building up our cultural strength is the very essential way to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.Therefore,internally,Mainstream Documentary is responsible of telling the story of our own people,improving people’s felling of happiness and enriching people’s spiritual and cultural life.On the other hand,externally,through dissemination China’s Mainstream Documentary about excellent Chinese stories is spread in the world,establishing a concrete and comprehensive China image,and creating an impressive international business card for China.Based on the graduation final project "Ordinary Road",combined with the relevant concepts of Mainstream Documentary,this article explains the strategy of telling Chinese stories in new-era mainstream documentaries.First of all,starting with the concept,the article clarifies the definition of Mainstream Documentary.Although in the new era,the mainstream documentary industry presents a blooming and thriving current situation,however,composing a mainstream documentary is to tell the Chinese story well,and to exhibit the discourse environment and time value.The third to fifth chapters of the article specifically analyze methods of telling Chinese stories,and answering the questions from three aspects: theme,narration,dissemination,as "what kind of Chinese stories","how to tell Chinese stories","how to spread Chinese stories".In the third chapter,the author applies macro and micro perspectives on the different themes of documentaries,including historical and contemporary themes,and the stories of ordinary people and outstanding representatives.The fourth chapter explores the narrative strategies and advantages of mainstream documentaries in the new era from the content level and discourse level.
