A Study On The Tragic Consciousness Of Lee Chang-dong’s Movies

Lee Chang-dong is the most representative director in South Korea after the 1990 s.His only six films all reveal the social real ity,explore the survival plight of individuals and groups,and convey tragic consciousness.The first chapter is the introduction,and the second chapter summarizes the expression of Lee Chang-dong’s film tragic consciousness."hate" : disability shrouded by fate and hate of existence;"loneliness" : lonely consciousness of family hiding,sinking material desire,spiritual frustration,etc.;"resistance" : resistance to a series of nothingness,such as capital violence,human evil,God betrayal and so on."death" : the understanding of the unity of life and death,the introspection and transcendence of death and other aspects explain the death to death.The third chapter discusses the artistic expression of Lee Chang-dong’s tragic consciousness in films.The first is the diversified narrative ways of illusion and reality,healing and fragmentation,linear and non-linear coexistence;the second is the tragic metaphorical symbols;finally,the tragic audio-visual language such as lens,sound and color.The fourth chapter analyzes the reasons for the formation of Lee Chang-dong’s film tragic consciousness.The first reason lies in the tragic reality of modern Korean society,including the collective unconscious hate culture,the decline of Confucian culture and the loss of paganism,and the disadvantages left by the rapid transformation of modernization;the second reason lies in Lee Chang-dong’s personal: mainly including the growth experience,the influence of celebrities,the continuation of the tragic theme of novel creation and the contradiction between self and film.The fifth chapter analyzes the value of Lee Chang-dong’s film tragic consciousness.In the aspect of artistic value,it emphasizes the existence beauty of human subjectivity and the lofty beauty of strong willpower of life;social ideological value includes the reconstruction of self-identity consciousness and self-reflection based on reality.
