| The modern Chinese dictionary has strong standardization and far-reaching significance.A certain amount of new words will be added in the continuous revision to comply with the development of the times. Therefore, this paper takes the new words in the 7th edition of modern Chinese dictionary as the index, draws lessons from the research results of traditional linguistics, combines diachronic exploration with synchronic analysis, investigates the motivation embodied in the new words, and grasps the development and evolution of modern Chinese.Previous studies on the new words in the 7th edition of the modern Chinese Dictionary mostly started from the database statistics, focusing on describing the current situation. The analysis of the causes of the changes was not deep enough, the discussion on the internal motivation of the new words was lack, and the new words were not analyzed from the diachronic level, such as etymology. This paper attempts to adopt a combination of synchronic and diachronic methods to systematically sort out the word motivation of new words, hoping to help the academic research. This paper makes statistics on the new words in the 7th edition of modern Chinese Dictionary compared with the 5th Edition, removes the parts of spoken words, dialects and classical Chinese words, removes the repeated words in the 7th edition of modern Chinese dictionary and Mandarin dictionary, and further retains the part of new words.Taking this as the research object, this paper explores the rationale of new words. The first chapter makes a comprehensive investigation on the new words in the research scope, and makes a quantitative statistical analysis on the syllable distribution, part of speech distribution and source of the new words,in order to restore the whole picture of the new words. In modern Chinese, the motivations of words exist widely, some of which are obvious and some of which are hidden. They may not be directly involved in the use of words, but only scattered in the distribution of various language examples in ancient and modern books,so they need to be deeply excavated. The second chapter divides the motivation of new words in the modern Chinese Dictionary(7th Edition)into explicit motivation and implicit motivation, and further subdivides the implicit motivation into six categories: etymological motivation, literal motivation, semantic motivation, cultural motivation, phonetic motivation and rhetorical motivation. In the analysis,we use the methods of semantic column sorting, etymological search, morpheme analysis, font tracing and compound word comparison to excavate the word motivation from the diachronic perspective as much as possible, and explore the changes of motivation from the synchronic comparison. After studying the syllables, parts of speech, sources, motivations and other ontology of new words, the third chapter explores the causes of new words from the perspectives of language and non language, and makes prediction suggestions and normative suggestions on motivations according to the characteristics of new words. |
