This translation material is excerpted from the first chapter Foundations of the Learning Revolution of the book Learning Innovation and the Future of Higher Education published by Johns Hopkins University Press in 2020.The authors Joshua Kim and Edward Maloney mainly discuss how colleges and universities should seize the opportunities to actively innovate teaching and learning models.By translating foreign educational concepts,the writer hopes to provide some reference for higher education practitioners in China.This translation practice report mainly includes four parts.The first part is the description of the translation task,which introduces the source text,the authors and the significance of this translation practice.The second part is the description of the translation process.In view of the differences in the educational system and culture between China and the United States,the writer has read educational monographs and reviews on higher education and learned professional background knowledge.In addition,translation tools are used to ensure the accuracy of the translation.According to the characteristics of educational texts,the writer combines the free with the literal translation method under the guidance of the Skopos Theory.The third part is the analysis of selected translation cases.The writer analyzes the typical translation cases from three perspectives of lexicon,syntax and discourse.The complex sentences are divided and restructured by means of conversion,combination,and division.The fourth part is a summary,including the writer’s experiences and lessons learned from this translation practice.Through this translation practice,the writer has accumulated educational terminology and profoundly understood the significance of translation for cross-cultural communication.In addition,the writer has improved the level of using translation strategies to solve translation difficulties and realized the guiding role of the Skopos Theory in the translation practice.The translator of non-literary texts should understand the stylistic features and logic of the original text to ensure that the translation should suit the logic of Chinese writing while maintaining its original language style.
