This translation practice is excerpted from Cleaning up Your Mental Mess,which focuses on helping people control their mind,thus cleaning up toxic thoughts,and finally regaining the mental health.Therefore,the translator chooses this book for translation,hoping to provide a new set of treatment methods for people who suffering from mental illness and confronting high pressure in China,helping them cope with the mental mess methodically and live a healthier life.This thesis consists of four parts.The first part is about translation tasks,briefly introduces the current situation of people’s mental pressure,and the significance of translating this book.The second part mainly describes the translation process.Through reading parallel books and professional reference books such as Trauma and Recovery and The Psychology Book,the translator has a preliminary knowledge of the text’s background,analyses the language style of popular science text,then lists translation difficulties such as "imposter syndrome" and "anandamide".The third part is case analysis.At the lexical level,translation cases of "neurocycle","serotonin","basket" and "Jacuzzi" are presented from title,term,adjective and rhetorical aspect;At the syntactic level,cases of clauses about "reconceptualization" and "kintsugi" are presented;The textual aspect focuses on articulation,coherence and language style of popular science text.In the fourth part,the translator summarizes the experience gained and problems encountered during the process,reflecting on specific methods of improvement in the future.By this translation practice,the translator realizes the importance of fully understanding the original text,and improving bilingual ability and information search ability.From now on,the translator would make every effort to hone translation skills to present readers with a more satisfied translation.
