| Realism is one of the most influential creative approaches in the history of art, emphasising the artist’s concern for the realities of society as it is,as well as a keen sense of the problems that exist in its development, which is expressed in a true and complete way through the typicalisation of artistic images. As a great master of the Western realism genre,Milnikov interspersed poetic lyricism into his realist artworks, allowing the viewer to empathise deeply with them. This paper explores Milnikov’s inheritance and innovation of realism from the perspective of cultural significance through literature, examples of his works, and interviews with Milnikov’s Chinese students.Starting with the current development of realist oil painting, the paper takes Milnikov’s artistic path and style as a starting point and analyses them in relation to his realist paintings. It then goes on to study Milnikov’s interaction with China and the cases of Chinese student representatives to derive his positive influence on Chinese realist oil painting and art education.Milnikov had his own unique understanding of realist painting, always incorporating a poetic language of painting alongside lyrical colouring, objectively reproducing the current state of society while incorporating the artist’s true feelings about life at different times. In today’s complex, diverse, and increasingly pluralistic art world, his keen sense of social reality, his exploration of his own unique painting language, and the spirit of the times conveyed in his works are even more meaningful to us. |
