The rapid development of China and the excellent traditional culture has attracted a large number of overseas students to study in China.In order to ensure the education quality of undergraduate students who win Chinese government scholarship,international students who can not speak Chinese need at least one year of preparatory education.Only when they meet the requirements of the undergraduate school can they officially enter the undergraduate school for study.The preparatory study in China can help international students adapt to the study and life in China,and also provide Chinese language support for them to continue learning in China.Most preparatory students can successfully pass the completion examination and have the admission qualification after the preparatory stage of Chinese learning.But under the same educational conditions,there are still some students can not meet the requirements of the Chinese level of undergraduate institutions.Under-achiever of preparatory students in China will cause learning disabilities,affect the future academic development,affect the development of Chinese as a foreign language education in China,affect the cultivation quality of Chinese learners in China.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the influencing factors of students with under-achiever and to explore the strategies for transforming under-achiever for development of individual learners and Chinese education as a foreign language.The formation of under-achiever has certain personalized characteristics.Most previous studies used quantitative methods to analyze the overall situation of learners with underachiever.This method can describe the characteristics of the population in broad strokes.However,it is difficult to describe the individual characteristics of the under-achiever in detail,and it is difficult to dig into the causes and influencing factors of the under-achiever,so it is not targeted enough to explore the transformation of the under-achiever.The thesis uses qualitative research methods to focus on the individual learners with underachiever in preparatory courses in China.The thesis focuses on the analysis of the influencing factors and the relationship between them,in order to put forward some suggestions on learning,teaching and management for the transformation of students with under-achiever.On the basis of previous studies,the thesis defines "preparatory students" and "underachiever" involved in the research.the thesis also put forward the main research questions of this thesis:1.What is the learning status of the students with under-achiever?2.What are the internal and external factors that contribute to this state of learning?3.What is the relationship between these influencing factors?4.The effect of transformation for students with underachiever.Suggestions for intervention and transformation of academic problems.Starting from the individual students with academic disability,using interview and observation to collect relevant information,exploring their living conditions,learning experiences and psychological activities,then using qualitative studies to analyze the data.This process mainly uses NVivo software to collect data,code and integrate materials,forming the influencing factors and their relationship of students with under-achiever in preparatory courses in China.Based on Japanese scholar Kitao Lun Yan’s theory of three levels,this thesis divides the causes of under-achiever performance into one-off factors,secondary factors and third factors.It is found that one-off factors are the direct factors that lead to poor academic performance,including "failure of learning activities","lack of correct learning methods","lack of good learning habits","lack of positive learning attitude" and "inappropriate teaching methods".It can also be divided into the influencing factors of students themselves and teachers’ teaching,both of which will directly lead to the under-achiever of preparatory students in China.The influence of teaching arrangement will also lead to the failure of students’ learning activities,and have an impact on their learning habits,learning methods and learning attitudes.The secondary factors will be the cause of the formation of one-off factors,and one-off factors will react on the secondary factors.The reduction of learners’ learning motivation will directly lead to the lack of positive learning attitude;The failure of learning activities brings negative feedback to learners,affects their learning motivation and promotes the generation of stress.Secondary factors are closely related to learners’ learning psychological disorders,mainly involving four aspects:"loss of learning motivation","self-cognitive deviation","weak selfregulation learning ability"and "weak ability to resist pressure".On the one hand,these learning psychological factors indirectly affect learners’ learning performance through their influence on students’ learning behavior.For example,the lack of learning motivation causes the lack of positive learning attitude,which leads to under-achiever;On the other hand,learning psychological factors interact with the environment.For example,low self-regulation learning ability will lead to learners’ inability to adapt to the cross-cultural differences after coming to China,thus failing to form good learning habits and ultimately leading to poor academic performance.The third factor is the deprivation of learners from the environment,including "influence of friends","maladjustment after coming to China" and "influence of parent-child relationship".third factors are the outermost of the factors related to under-achiever,which are closely related to one-off factors and secondary factors,thus leading to under-achiever.For example,parentchild relationship tension can lead to academic failure through secondary factors such as academic pressure affecting learners,as well as bad learning habits formed from childhood.The transformation of typical cases was carried out according to the research conclusions,and the transformation results were tracked.On this basis,this thesis forms suggestions for the prevention and transformation of students,teachers’ teaching and school management.
