With the continuous progress of the construction of the “the Belt and Road” and the“Economic Corridor of China,Mongolia,Russia”,China and Mongolia have increasingly closer communication and exchanges in various fields.In recent years,under the background of vigorously promoting the development of cultural undertakings in China,culture and customs of Mongolian has also attracted much attention.In order to deeply study the customs and cultural beliefs of Mongolia,the translator,from English to Chinese translation practice of Culture and Customs of Mongolia(excerpts),enables people to have a deeper understanding of Mongolia’s spiritual outlook,national wisdom and unique customs,and improves the translator’s translation ability.This translation practice report includes a large number of proper nouns and Mongolian culture loaded words.The sentence structure is complex,which poses certain challenges as a translation text.Guided by Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory,the translator explores the translation strategies of Mongolian texts from the lexical and sentence levels.Through case analysis,this report analyzes in detail the application of translation theory,translation methods and translation strategies in the process of translation practice,as follows: at the lexical level,translators need to translate the source text vocabulary reasonably according to the text characteristics,lexical collocation,context and even cultural factors,and adopt various translation methods such as back translation,the established popular translated names,amplification,transliteration,transliteration plus annotation,literal translation plus annotation,free translation plus annotation and word selection,So as to realize lexical semantic equivalence;At the sentence level,due to various factors such as the emphasis on semantics in English,the emphasis on structure in Chinese,the length of sentences in English,the number of short sentences in Chinese,the number of extensions in English,and the number of inferences in Chinese,translators need to use translation skills to adjust sentence structures in the process of translation,such as splitting,recasting and merging,so as to achieve the relevance of the text.Through this translation of Mongolian texts from English to Chinese,the translator is fully aware of the differences between Chinese and Mongolian cultures.On the basis of understanding the original text,the translator flexibly applies some translation techniques to achieve accurate reproduction of the information of the original text.The translator hopes that this translation practice report can provide reference value for the readers who study customs and cultural texts of Mongolia. |
