This is an English-Chinese translation practice report.The source text of the report is selected from Brain Power,which was published by Michael O’Mara Books Ltd.in January 2022.This book explains the science behind what really affects our brains,as well as provides practical tips and exercises to improve and maintain brain function into old age.The translator selects Chapters 12-14,Chapters 17-19,and Chapter 24 of the book.The selected text mainly focuses on strengthening our brain power and preventing brain diseases in three aspects: physical exercise,mental exercise and social life.In the process of translation,the difficulties encountered by the translator are mainly demonstrated at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.At the lexical level,the translation difficulties include terms of neuroscience,proper nouns and idioms.The translator applies annotation,transliteration,amplification and semantic extension.At the syntactic level,translation difficulties include sentences with dashes,passive sentences,long and complex sentences.The translator adopts the translation methods of retaining dashes,deleting dashes and replacing with other punctuations marks,voice transformation,division and reconstruction.At the textual level,translation difficulties include cohesion and coherence.The translator uses the method of reference and adding conjunction words.Through this translation practice,the translator has improved translation ability to a certain extent,summarized translation experience,reflected on limitations and put forward some suggestions.At the same time,in the process of practice,the translator also learned more about improving brain health.The chapters selected by the translator contain some new studies on the brain,which can provide some references for scholars studying neurology. |
